The 6th of November is a day of historic significance, since it marks the establishment of Abkhazian television. On this day, the first program of national broadcasting was aired. The establishment of Abkhazian television became possible first of all thanks to the demands of the representatives of the national intelligentsia, veterans of the national movement of liberation. Political documents of utmost importance, which they sent to the highest Soviet party leaders in Moscow in 1977, created a new wave of popular unrest in 1978. These processes caused special state decisions to be made in relation to Abkhazia. As a result, Abkhazian television and Abkhazian State University were established.
Since that day, the Abkhazian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company functions as the main instrument of the implementation of the national and state ideology. Television and radio broadcasting played a significant role in providing an extensive coverage of the national struggle for the freedom and independence of the Republic of Abkhazia. We bow our heads in memory of those employees of the television, who died fighting for the liberation of their Homeland during the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia.
Today, the staff members of the Abkhazian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company are faced with a number of responsible tasks. These tasks are dedicated to the provision of high-quality professional information coverage of the socio-economic, cultural, scientific, educational, youth and spiritual, and other development priorities of the state. The government will make considerable efforts to strengthen the material and technical foundations of radio and television.
I heartily congratulate the staff members of the Abkhazian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company on the Birthday of our national television!
I wish you strong health, luck, and creative inspiration!
