President Raul Khadzhimba gave a speech at a celebratory event, dedicated to the 98th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Border guard.
Dear servicemen and veterans of the Border control of the FSS of Russia in Abkhazia!
I congratulate you on the 98th anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Border guard.
The years that have passed since the establishment of the Border control of the FSS of Russia in Abkhazia have shown that you fulfill your duties with dignity, by protecting the borders of the Republic of Abkhazia together with Abkhazian border guards.
In many respects, peace and security on the Abkhazian soil are the result of your efforts. However, as we can see, threats to security remain. Unfortunately, today both the soldiers of Abkhazia and Russia give their lives to the task of protecting our borders.
Last year, we have lost an experienced specialist, lieutenant colonel of the Special Purpose Centre of the Abkhazian State Security Service Eduard Nersesyan, who lost his life in a special operation in the Gal District together with a serviceman of the Border control of the FSS of Russia in Abkhazia Andrey Udaltsov.
Lieutenant colonel of the Abkhazian State Security Service Eduard Nersesyan was posthumously awarded the Order of Leon for courage, dedication and bravery, demonstrated in the defence of Abkhazia.
Andrey Udaltsov’s achievements in the provision of state security and the defence of the state border of Abkhazia have also been noted – he was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage.
The selfless actions of these young servicemen will serve as an example for today's and future generations of border guards, employees of state security services and special forces.
Allow me to wish you, dear servicemen and veteran border guards, health, long years of life and future successes in the service for the benefit of the Republic of Abkhazia.
