President Raul Khadzhimba addressed the veterans of the Great Patriotic War and all citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia with congratulations on the 71st anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Dear veterans!
Dear citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia!
Allow me to heartily congratulate you on this great holiday – Victory Day. While celebrating the 71st anniversary of Great Victory, we once again return to those difficult times, when only the unity of the nations of the Soviet Union, dedication and heroism of the defenders of the Fatherland succeeded in putting an end to the evils of Nazism and in bringing liberation to all mankind.
We pay tribute to soldiers, who with unparalleled courage and bravery defended the Caucasus and fought at the approaches to Moscow, participated in the Battle of Kursk and Stalingrad, liberated the countries of Europe and stormed Berlin. Among them – more than 55 thousand of citizens of Abkhazia, who fought side by side with the Russian and other nations of the USSR.
Today and always we will honour the memory of millions of people, whose lives were claimed by the war.
Our dear veterans! Each one of you is dear to us. You have survived two wars and you have endured these terrible tests with honour. Your children and grandchildren received from your hands the banner of patriotism and courage. They have bravely defended Apsny, achieving Victory in the Patriotic War of the People of Abkhazia in 1992-1993. You can be proud of them.
On this glorious day of the Great Victory, we once again feel an indissoluble spiritual unity with the Russian people. Respect for our common history and a common victory brings us closer with the Russian Federation and strengthens the friendly and cooperative relations between our people and states.
Unity saved the Soviet people in the struggle against fascism. Unity and solidarity of our people were a powerful weapon in the war against the Georgian aggressor. We should be united today as well, so that Abkhazia could develop and realise its inner potential, so that people would live better and the state would become self-sufficient, and so that there would be peace and stability in our society.
Then we will be invincible and we will achieve everything.
I wish all dear veterans and all citizens of Abkhazia health, prosperity and successes.
