President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya received an EU delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar.
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Daur Kove, Political Adviser to the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Björn Kühne, Political Advisor to the Office of the EU Special Representative Emmanuel Anquetil, and EU Political Advisor Gottfried Hanne.
“Welcome to Abkhazia! Glad to meet you personally. I hope that the outcome of today’s meeting will benefit us in establishing peace and trust between the conflicting parties. As far as I understand, your main mission is this. We do not want to aggravate the situation, we do not want war. We do not take someone else’s land from them and we will not give our own. We are building and developing our state. For 12 years, we have been trying to convey our position to the world community at the Geneva Discussions. We continue to insist on the signing of the Treaty on the Non-Use of Force, and we hope that the European Union will facilitate the signing of such an agreement”, - said Aslan Bzhaniya.
EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar thanked the President of Abkhazia for the meeting. “Thank you for taking the time to meet with us. I hope that we will be able to discuss issues in the solution of which all parties are interested. On behalf of the European Union, we declare our interest in the stability in the region, and we hope that we will be given an opportunity to provide further assistance to Abkhazia”, - said the EU Special Representative.
During the meeting, they discussed the upcoming Geneva Discussions on stability and security in the Transcaucasia. EU representatives also announced their intention to assist the republic in the fight against coronavirus infection.
The EU delegation was also received today by the Secretary of the Security Council Sergei Shamba.
