to the President of the Republic of South Ossetia
Dear Anatoly Ilyich!
Today, on the day of the twelfth anniversary of the treacherous invasion of the Georgian forces in South Ossetia, we, together with the brotherly Ossetian nation, remember the heroes – defenders of the Homeland. August 8, 2008, will enter history as both a tragic and a heroic day. Brave sons and daughters of South Ossetia fought back against the Georgian invaders who entered the peaceful town of Tskhinval under the cover of the night.
The events of August 2008 have demonstrated once again to the entire world that Great Russia does not leave its friends in trouble. Thanks to the decisive and timely actions of the leadership of Russia, the enemy was defeated.
Together, supporting each other, our nations have travelled a difficult road to independence. I am confident that by uniting our efforts, we will achieve great success in state-building for the sake of a peaceful and prosperous future of our nations.
On this day, we honour the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their native land. Their heroic deeds will serve future generations as an example of loyalty to the Homeland. Eternal memory for the fighters – liberators!
