According to the information of the Coordination headquarters for the protection of the population from coronavirus, at the moment, there is no single person in Abkhazia with a confirmed COVID-19. All citizens who had coronavirus earlier were recovered after treatment in the Gudauta Central Republican Hospital. The leadership of the state, in accordance with the advice of specialists in the field of epidemiology, undertakes all necessary measures to protect the population from the coronavirus infection COVID-19. As President Aslan Bzhaniya has stated many times, the protection of the lives and health of the citizens is a priority for the state’s leadership.
As part of the President’s Decree “On the individual measures to protect the health of the population of the Republic of Abkhazia from the new coronavirus infection COVID-19” from June 30, 2020, the Abkhazian side has prepared several suggestions on lifting the restrictions on the crossing of the Russian-Abkhazian state border. President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Russia Mikhail Mishustin in which he expressed the readiness of Abkhazia to remove restrictions in compliance with the necessary sanitary and epidemiological measures. At the moment, consultations at the governmental level take place between the representatives of both sides to develop a joint proposal on the removal of the restrictions at the border. Based on today’s situation, on the basis of a decision by the Coordination headquarters for the protection of the population of the Republic of Abkhazia from the new coronavirus infection COVID-19 from July 14, President of the Republic of Abkhazia signed a Decree “On amending the Decree of the President of the Republic of Abkhazia from June 30, 2020 ‘On the individual measures to protect the health of the population of the Republic of Abkhazia from the new coronavirus infection COVID-19’”, which presupposes the extension of restrictions on the state border until July 21, 2020.
